Our Work
BDA Foundation is a non-profit organization that operates in Africa in the area of international cooperation. With an eye to sustainable development and the protection of biodiversity, BDA Foundation supports scientific cooperation and provides technical training and support. Our goal is to create the means by which local populations can benefit fully from the production and commercialization of indigenous medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) produced in compliance with the bio-pharmaceutical standards recently established by the World Health Organization (WHO): The good agricultural and cultivation practices (GACP).
Education
The Ecopreneurs will be working with local and international experts, and trained in quality assurance, while learning the workings of corporate finance. These budding BDA ecopreneurs will receive assistance in obtaining the financing that will enable them to launch their own African medicinal plant agro-businesses. New jobs will be created, and an industry in medicinal plants will begin to flourish.
Environment
The protection of the environment and local biodiversity are at the heart of BDA Foundation’s activities. The impact of these activities aim to sensitize local populations to the negative effects of uncontrolled commercialization. A pro-active approach will be used to protect the balance of the biodiversity in the region. Our activities come to support the work of other organizations devoted to the protection of the environment. The training program for future MAP producers integrate well with global strategies for the protection of natural resources allied with economic and sustainable development.
Socio-economics
The activities of the Ecopreneurs will create many jobs around that new agricultural economic sector. Also, the long-term goal of BDA is to replicate this model throughout Africa in order to guarantee that the greatest number of African communities benefit from the economic advancements created by this expanding market for medicinal plants. It is a sophisticated and high value added world market governed by the rules of quality control.
